Winemaker Unfiltered gives you my personal take—as a winemaker—on various trends and concepts currently making the rounds in the wine world today. There is a lot that I love about our wine industry, which is really more of a community than an industry. Wine is a beverage that connects us to each other and helps form bonds that can be quite rewarding and long lasting.
I’ve been at this game for a while and have been privileged to work with a lot of talented pros on many levels. By and large, the majority of us are driven by a quest for excellence in the bottle.
But sometimes clarity of purpose is marred by a point of view not fully rooted in transparency. As a result, there is a fair amount of misinformation dotting the viticultural landscape. Through a series of short posts, I hope to bring a more balanced view to some of the issues of the day.
What is the name behind "Winemaker Unfiltered?" I'm Jeff Morgan; and I have had the good fortune to do a whole lot of things in our wine industry. In addition to making wine--currently at Covenant Winery in Berkeley, CA and in Israel--I've been a wine journalist, author and media consultant. I started out some 30 years ago as a vineyard worker in New York.
